In 2023, The National Lottery supported our community in Pitsmoor, to help with the Green City Action ‘Fruits for families’ project by awarding us £10,000 to improve the area. Working with Sheffield Fruit Trees, who supplied rich local varieties, and other local groups, we aimed to improve the environment of previously badly littered places in S4. In total we worked on 10 sites around Burngreave, planting fruit trees, bushes and lots of flowers. We have had many comments from local people, saying how much of a difference the plants have made. We will continue to work together, with local partners, to nurture and sustain the sites in the coming months and years.
We are always looking to encourage new volunteers in Burngreave to take greater responsibility for their environment and get involved, because we believe that communities get better when they work together…
if you’ve noticed a problem in the environment in your area, you can download the ‘Fixmystreet’ App on your smart phone and report any ‘problem’ there. Download photos and describe the problem to council services, or get in touch at volunteering@greencityaction.org.uk. and get stuck in.
